Jim was born to Rosemary (a nurse) and Jeremy (a biology teacher and headmaster) in Essex, England and grew up on the Isle of Wight where he attended his father's school. After school he spent a year teaching in Kenya before going to Exeter University to study Ancient History and Archaeology. At university he performed stand up comedy in local clubs and wrote sketch comedy. Moving to London on graduation he worked in several different jobs including as a researcher in the BBC history department and assistant at Tiger Aspect. Moving to Prague he quickly got involved in the local theatre scene, doing anything and soon started picking up international commercial castings. His first major television role came in the Fox pilot Masterwork, playing Mi6 agent Andrew Woodworth opposite Natalie Dormer. Around the same time he co-founded his own theatre company, Blood, Love & Rhetoric, and wrote, directed and performed in around 30 plays over the next 10 years, including his original take on the works of Jorge Luis Borges, 'The Enemies' and playing characters such as Rosencratz in Rosencratz and Guildenstern are Dead, Mick in The Caretaker, Torvald in Doll's House, and Jay Gatsby in The Great Gatsby as well as directing Chekhov, Pinter, Buchner (an original musical of Wojzceck) and Zurich Plays: A Dada history of dada performed in dada. He also started the Blood, Love & Rhetoric Comedy Show, a show now with international recognition as one of the best in Europe and a long list of celebrity guests who have seen the show. Notable roles in film and television include Fergus in Carnival Row, Templar Knight Ulric in Knightfall, the soldier in the original Snowpiercer movie (Joon ho Bong), and Sgt Yure Teplov in Shadow and Bone. He has several projects coming out in 2022 including George Bologne in the highly anticipated movie Chevalier as well as playing Mi6 Agent Robert Thompson alongside Matthew Fox and Joanne Froggart in the powerful drama series Last Light and as the demon Mammon in the horror feature film Devil. Jim splits his time between Prague and London.
